Cougars get franchise's first shutout with 17-0 win versus Wenatchee

Saturday Dec 12, 2009
SACRAMENTO, CA – Dec. 12, 2009 – Robby Christner netted two goals in his professional arena soccer debut, Brian Farber had a hat-trick and the Cougars left Estadio Azteca Sports Arena in Sacramento with a 17-0 home win on Saturday night. An untested Jesus Molina needed just four saves to record the first shutout win in team history.

California (3-1) out shot Wenatchee (0-1) 54 to eight, and scored a 2009-10 Professional Arena Soccer League season high 17 goals in the most lopsided win in Cougars franchise history.

Farber led the Cougars (3-1) with three goals and five assists for eight points. He scored all three goals in the second half, with the first happening in the third.

Forward Hugo Brambila scored two goals and recorded four assists in his regular season debut.

Christner scored his first PASL-Pro goal in the second and his second in the third. The newly signed Cougars forward played in four seasons for Oregon State between 2004 and 2008. He also had one assist in the match.

Seven Cougars players had two or more goals in the match. Only Jorge Martinez, Pedro Lupercio and Antonio Sutton were held without a goal in the lopsided win.

The Cougars will play the Estadio Azteca All-Stars on Sunday at Turlock Indoor Soccer. The match will be California’s first in the United States Arena Soccer Open Cup Tournament. The game kicks off at 4:00 PM and tickets are just $10.
