"Health is a Kick!" is a community outreach program designed by the California Cougars to educate local students on the importance of living a healthy, active and drug free lifestyle. The program is in its fifth season, and includes visits from the Cougars players and staff to local schools. Each visit includes a lecture about living a healthy lifestyle and pursuing a college education, as well as a physical activity demonstration.
All participating students who complete the "Health is A Kick!" contract receive a ticket to a select Cougars home match.
I understand that a healthy eating plan...
• Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products.
• Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts.
• Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) and added sugars.
I understand that staying active equals staying healthy.
• Be physically active for at least 30 minutes most days of the week.
• Daily exercise is part of a long and healthy life.
I understand the importance of staying drug free.
• Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are not part of a healthy lifestyle.
• I should be a leader and not a follower.
I understand the importance of getting an education.
• A healthy mind helps lead to a healthy body.
• An education is the first step toward achieving success in life.
