Cougars send Leo Gibson to Ignition for draft picks
Thursday Nov 15, 2007
Stockton, CA – Nov. 15, 2007 – The California Cougars, of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), announce the acquisition of a first round selection in the 2008 Supplemental Draft and future considerations from the Detroit Ignition in exchange for the playing rights to forward Leo Gibson.
The Cougars selected Gibson with the 40th pick in the 2007 MISL Supplemental Draft. Gibson previously played for the Minnesota Thunder of the USL-1, and was a teammate of current Cougar midfielder Brian Farber. The 24 year old forward is originally from Monrovia, Liberia and currently resides in the Midwest. He did not appear in the Cougars’ 2007 training camp.
“We traded Leo’s playing rights because he wanted to play closer to home, we never got a chance to take a look at him in our camp,” said Cougars’ head coach Bernie Lilavois. “Detroit seems like a better fit for him. We received some draft picks in next year’s supplemental draft, which is the same draft we used to select Kupono Low. This trade basically replaces a non-active player on our roster for two future picks. I think it shows our commitment not only to this season but to a bright future at the same time.”
The Cougars play the Ignition (2-1) this Saturday night at 7:15 in the Stockton Arena. The Cougars (1-1) beat La Raza de Monterrey (1-2) on November 10, 2007, 20-10, for their first victory of the season. Tickets are available online at californiacougars.net and by phone by calling (209) 373-1550.
