Cougars agree to terms with Brian Farber
Wednesday Oct 03, 2007
Stockton, CA -- Oct. 3, 2007 -- The California Cougars, of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), announce today that the team has agreed to contract terms with midfielder Brian Farber. Per team policy, terms of the deal will not be released.
Farber emerged as a true offensive weapon in the 2006-07 season. He utilized his explosive speed to knock in 22 goals in his second professional season with the Cougars. His season total of 53 points placed him 14th best in the MISL.
Farber recorded three hat-tricks during the 2006-07 season. Including a three goal, six point performance against the Milwaukee Wave on January 27, 2007; and back-to-back hat-tricks against the Detroit Ignition on back-to-back nights, March 23, and March 24, 2007. “Farbs” scored four goals and two assists against the Ignition on March 24, resulting in a career high 10 points scored in the game. He finished the 2006-07 season with 25 points, five assists and four blocks against Detroit.
“His speed is second to none in the league,” said head coach Bernie Lilavois. “Our goal is to get him to learn the indoor game, the runs, the plays, all of that; so that he can use his speed to his advantage this year. Right now he’s on fire. He was named to the All-League Second team in the A-League and finished last year with 16 points in his final three games.”
Farber played with the USL First Division’s Minnesota Thunder this past off-season. He played in all 28 games for the Thunder and finished with a team leading seven goals, three assists and 17 points. His 17 points were ninth best in the USL-1, and his seven goals were good enough for seventh best.
Farber led all scorers with two goals and five points against the Stars of Mexico on September 29, 2007 in California’s 15 to 6 win. Farber opened the game with a goal in the first quarter just 1:20 into the game. Then in the second he assisted Enrique Tovar on a two-point goal. Farber scored again in the third at 8:33 into the quarter.
