Cougars Acquire Goalkeeper Sanaldo in Trade with MISL New Jersey
 Tuesday Jun 05, 2007
(STOCKTON CA., June 5, 2007) – The California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League announced the completion of a trade with the Detroit Ignition that will bring one of the league’s most dominating goalkeepers to the Cougars.
The Cougars acquired Sanaldo in exchange for MISL New Jersey’s first round pick (second overall) in the upcoming expansion draft. MISL New Jersey’s pick was acquired in an earlier trade that send Shaun David, Gary Brooks and Stefan Stokic to MISL New Jersey for their 1st, 3rd and 4th round picks in the 2007-2008 expansion draft.
Sanaldo, a 6’0”, 160 pound native of Sao Paulo Brazil, enters his fifth season in the MISL. During the 2005-06 season, Sanaldo led the Baltimore Blast to its fourth MISL championship, positing a 2-1 record in the championship series against the St. Louis Steamers. He played for the Kansas City Comets from 2003 to 2005, and was named to the 2003-2004 all rookie team
On joining the Cougars, Sanaldo said, “California has a good team and I will try to help them become even better. I look forward to playing for California next season and always want to play my best for the team. I enjoyed my stay in Detroit and wish them the best of luck in the future. California played well at the end of last season and I am optimistic we can start strong in 2007-08.”
California Cougars Head Coach and Director of Soccer Operations Bernie Lilavios said, “We just acquired one of the top three goalkeepers in the MISL. This is huge for our organization. Sanaldo has played in the past two MISL Championship Series and will add composure and experience on the defensive side of the ball which has been a major problem for us the past two seasons. All it takes is a few early wins for a team to gain confidence and a winning attitude over the course of a thirty game season. We believe the addition of Sanaldo not only allows our fans the opportunity to see a world class goalkeeper in a Cougars uniform, but also is a major step in our quest to become MISL Champions.”
