Farber and Leone re-sign for 2009-10 season

Stockton, CA – Nov. 6, 2009 – The defending Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro) champion California Cougars have reached contract agreements with midfielder Brian Farber and forward Ato Leone for the 2009-10 season, it was announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deals will not be disclosed.

Farber, 27, is the reigning PASL-Pro Most Valuable Player. He led the PASL-Pro champion Cougars in overall games played (21), and goals (49) last season. Farber was also fourth in blocks (18) and had 14 multi-goal games over his MVP campaign. He set a team record for goals (5) and points (7) in a match on 1/24/09 in Texas. Farber matched the record again with a five goal performance against Chico on 2/12/09 at Stockton Arena.

Farber spent the indoor offseason with the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer League’s first division. He appeared in 29 matches for the Timbers and recorded three goals and four assists. Farber scored Portland’s first goal of their season against the Carolina Railhawks on 5/2/09 at PGE Park. He also played with the USL-1 Minnesota Thunder in 2007. He played in all 28 games for the Thunder and finished with a team leading seven goals, three assists and 17 points. His 17 points were ninth best in the USL-1, and his seven goals were good enough for seventh best.

Leone, 38, is a seasoned indoor soccer veteran with more than 300 points scored in his professional career. He netted 18 goals in 16 league matches last season. Leone scored the first Cougars’ goal in the history of Stockton Arena on 12/18/05 against the Baltimore Blast.

Leone, a native of San Vicente, Argentina, was the named the most valuable player of the World Indoor Soccer League in 2001 after scoring a league best 42 points for the Sacramento Knights. Leone scored 25 goals and 17 assists for the Knights in 2001 and 46 points (25 goals and 21 assists) for Sacramento in 2000. He began his career in 1995 with the Houston Hotshots of the Continental Indoor Soccer League.
